Women’s Soccer Returns from NorCal Unbeaten

The Cypress College women's soccer team (4-0) traveled up north on Labor Day Weekend to take on Foothill College and San Francisco City College. The Chargers defeated the Owls 1-0 on Friday afternoon followed by a 2-1 victory over the Rams on Sunday.

9/4 Cypress @ Foothill : The Chargers had another strong defensive showing on Friday against the Foothill College Owls (0-1). Goal keeper Paulina Serna (3-0) collected her third straight shutout and as the Cypress defense did not allow the Owls to get a shot on goal.

At 26:29, Layla Silva (So) collected her second goal of the season thanks to a Yazkbeth Tenorio assist to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. Cypress would maintain control of the game throughout and hang on to defeat the Owls 1-0.

9/6 Cypress @ San Francisco City: The Chargers wrapped up their non-conference schedule on Saturday with a 2-1 win over the San Francisco City Rams (2-1).  

At 38:54, Cypress jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal from Karla Lopez (So). The Chargers defense gave up their first goal of the season in the 65th minute when San Francisco City's Sydney Alvarado slotted an unassisted goal to tie the game 1-1. At 75:00, Cypress would regain the lead after a strike from Gissel Avila (Fr) assisted by Karla Lopez (So). The Chargers would hold on to win the game 2-1 after a late save by sophomore keeper Paulina Serna (4-0).

The Cypress College women's soccer team will head into Orange Empire Conference play with an unbeaten record, outscoring their four opponents by a total of 7 goals to 1. Conference play will begin at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, September 15th when the Chargers visit Golden West College.
