Women’s Basketball Drops First Game of the Lady Charger Classic Tournament

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress women's basketball (5-2, 0-0 OEC) lost their opening game of the Lady Charger Classic to the Palomar Comets (7-0, 0-0 PCAC), 70-57.

With a slow start to the game by both sides, Cypress only made one basket in the first five minutes of play. Minutes left in the first quarter, the Chargers found themselves down by a double digit deficit. Cypress fell behind due to the constant and persistent pressure by the Comets.

At the end of the first quarter, the Chargers trailed 18-4. Palomar was physical from the jump and consistently rushed to any Cypress ball carrier giving little space for movement or passing lanes.

At half, the home team Chargers trailed 30-13. Halfway through the third quarter however, Cypress found a rhythm which electrified the crowd at Don Johnson Court. Palomar responded to every Charger basket and kept their lead to double digits throughout the game.

The home team did outscore Palomar in both the third and fourth quarters. But the first half points proved to be the determining factor. The Chargers ultimately could not keep up to the Comet's speed and quick passing game. Cypress's fight in the second half created promise and momentum for the rest of the Lady Charger Classic Tournament.

UP NEXT: The Chargers continue the Lady Charger Classic on Saturday against East Los Angeles. Tip off will be at 6PM.
