CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's basketball team (5-1) defeated San Diego Mesa (2-3) on Tuesday night, 75-42.
Ashley Hawkins (16 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists), Jaylene Oviedo (14 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals), and Thanh Danh (12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals).
Taking an early lead, the momentum stayed with the Chargers throughout the first half. Thanh Danh stole the ball with 3 minutes to go in the first quarter, and the momentum stayed with the Chargers when Ashley Hawkins scored a layup in that same play. The Chargers kept their lead the entire first half, which ended with an exciting 3-pointer from Jaylene Oviedo with 1 second left.
More of the same from the Chargers in the second half, battling to widen their lead. The Chargers pressured San Diego Mesa into 25 turnovers with their daunting full-court defensive pressure. Then, Mallory Sidoti scored the final bucket for the Chargers to make the final score 75-42.
UP NEXT: Women's basketball will host their 39th Annual Lady Charger Classic on Thursday, December 1. Tip-off will start at 5:00PM against Palomar College.
