Chargers Defeat Warriors in Season Opener, 69-39

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's basketball team (1-0) defeated the El Camino Warriors (0-1) on Thursday night, 69-39.

Sophomore guard Ashley Hawkins started her season with 19 points and 3 assists. Freshman Kayleen Palomino knock down 2-of-2 three-pointers for the Chargers. Off the bench, Alexcia Alvarez contributed 10 points, 3 steals, 3 assists, and Thao Truong had 11 points, 3 steals, and 3 assists.  

The Chargers got up to an 8-0 lead before the Warriors scored their first basket. Cypress pushed the Warriors to a total of 19 turnovers with their full-court defensive pressure. 

Then, Cypress women's basketball continued to lead in the first two quarters as the Warriors trailed by sixteen points going into the second half. El Camino was never able to recover as the Chargers pulled away with the 30 point victory.

 

UP NEXT: Women's basketball will travel to Merced College for their first tournament of the season on November 10th. Tip-off will start at 6:00PM against San Joaquin Delta College.
