Chargers Edge Out Hornets, 68-64

Cypress College women's basketball (19-5, 8-2 OEC) beat the Fullerton Hornets (15-9, 7-3 OEC) at Don Johnson Court on Thursday night. Cypress knocked down big shots throughout the game to come out on top.

The Chargers used their full court pressure to slow down Fullerton early in the game. Cypress created 13 turnovers in the first half and captalized on the opportunities in the fast break. Jessica Barrow and Pressilla Blanco both found themselves in double figures by halftime. Sophomore, Sarah Welch played an awesome game and was a threat on the glass. She came down with 5 offensive rebounds in the first half to help Cypress grab a 32-27 lead heading into halftime. Jessica Barrow struck again at the end of the third when she took here defender off the dribble and knocked down a huge three. Pressila Blanco made a step back buzzer beating jump shot to give Cypress momentum going into the last quarter. The Chargers carried a 7 point lead with two minutes to go, but Fullerton was not done. The Hornets clawed back into the game on a layup to make the score 64-62 Cypress with one minute to go. Fullerton had the opportunity to tie it with less than twenty seconds to play, but Jessica Barrow came down with a huge defensive rebound and was fouled immediately. The freshman calmly went to the line and knocked down both freethrows to ice the game for Cypress. With the Charger win, they have moved into the #2 seed in the OEC. 

Up Next: The Chargers will face their toughest test of the season next week when they travel to take on Irvine Valley. Irvine Valley is the #1 seed in the OEC and is 10-0 in conference play. The game will be Wednesday, February 19th, tip-off is at 5:00PM.
