CYPRESS, CA - At the annual post-conference women's basketball coaches meeting, the OEC coaches selected the First and Second All-Orange Empire Conference Teams. Cypress' Hannah Avila-McArthur and Janei-Ruby Fuamatu each earned spots on the 2019 All-OEC Second Team.
Sophomore forward Hannah Avila-McArthur did it all for the Chargers this season, averaging 10.7 points, 9 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 1 block per game. In conference play, Avila-McArthur notched a team-leading four double-doubles. her full skillset was on display in the Chargers' road game against Saddleback, where she finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Freshman guard Janei-Ruby Fuamatu had a breakout season for the Chargers. Fuamatu led Cypress in scoring, averaging 11.9 points per game to go along with 2.8 assists per game. Fuamatu posted back-to-back 21-point performances in conference play to help propel the Chargers to the playoffs.
The Lady Chargers finished the 2018-19 season with a 20-10 overall record and 11-3 record in the Orange Empire Conference, where they finished second, under head coach Margaret Mohr. Cypress made the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs as a No. 14 seed, knocking off Imperial Valley College in the first round before falling to East Los Angeles College in Saturday night's second round game, 55-52.
