No. 14 Lady Chargers Set for SoCal Regional Showdown with No. 3 East LA

CYPRESS, CA – The No. 14-seeded Cypress College women's basketball team (20-9, 11-3 OEC) picked up a CCCAA SoCal Regional Playoff victory at home over No. 19-seeded Imperial Valley College (14-14, 5-4 PCAC) on Wednesday night, 73-50.

The Lady Chargers move on to the CCCAA Southern California Regional Quarterfinal, where they will travel to take on No. 3 East Los Angeles College on Saturday night at 5:30pm. You can stream the live SportsNetUSA broadcast HERE.

Cypress used a balanced offensive attack and smothering defense to knock off IVC in their opening round matchup on Wednesday. The Chargers forced IVC to commit 29 turnovers, resulting in 31 Cypress points.

Freshman Tanya Carbajal led the Chargers with a season-high 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting off the bench. Freshman Janei-Ruby Fuamatu added 11 points and sophomore Christa Evans finished with 9 points and 9 rebounds.

The Chargers will have a much tougher task in Saturday's matchup against the Huskies. However, Cypress got the job done earlier this season in a 77-72 victory over ELAC at home on December 1, snapping the Huskies' nine-game winning streak.
