Lady Chargers Earn No. 14 Seed; Set to Host No. 19 Imperial Valley Wednesday Night

CCCAA SOCAL REGIONAL BRACKET

The Cypress College women's basketball team has earned the No. 14 seed in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs and will host No. 19 Imperial Valley in Gym II on Wednesday night at 7:00pm.

The Lady Chargers finished the season with a 19-9 overall record and 11-3 record in the OEC, where they finished second this season.

Freshman guards Janei-Ruby Fuamatu and Pressila Blanco pace the Chargers' backcourt, while sophomores Hannah Avila-McArthur and Christa Evans dominate in the paint.

Fuamatu leads the Chargers in scoring, averaging 12ppg on 37% shooting, including 35% from long-range. Blanco is the team's primary ball handler and best facilitator, leading the team in assists per game (3.3apg), while adding 8.6 points per game.

Avila-McArthur has been Cypress' most consistent performer all season, averaging a near double-double on the year at 11 points and 9 rebounds per game. She has proven that she has the ability to take over games on either end of the floor and will be key to the Chargers' success this postseason. Evans is another game-changer for the Lady Chargers, averaging 8.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Her relentless attacks at the rim put pressure on opposing defenses and help control the game's pace, as she averages 3.8 free throw attempts per game.

Imperial Valley finished second in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference South Division with a 14-13 overall record and 5-3 record in conference play.

Sophomores Destiny Salgado and Keren Hogue have paced IVC all season, averaging 18.9ppg and 16.4ppg, respectively.

Cypress College women's basketball is 1-1 all-time against Imperial Valley College. The last time the two teams matched up was in 2005 when the Lady Chargers went on to win the CCCAA State Title.
