Chargers Cruise Past Pirates, 75-60

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's basketball team (13-7, 5-1 OEC) bounced back nicely with a 75-60 victory at home over the Orange Coast College Pirates (2-14, 2-4 OEC) on Friday night.

The Lady Chargers were looking to make a statement coming off a tough conference road loss at the hands of district rival Fullerton College on Wednesday night, and they did just that, jumping out to a 20-9 lead in the opening quarter.

Despite a conference season-high 24 turnovers for the Chargers, they managed to overcome the miscues and control the game from start to finish. Cypress relied on a dominant performance in the paint, where they outscored the Pirates 64-12 for the game, including 18 second-chance points.

Sophomore Christa Evans led the way for Cypress, notching her first double-double of the season with 17 points to go along with 16 rebounds and 3 assists. Sophomore Nicole Miller continued to be an x-factor off the bench for Cypress, finishing with 14 points and 11 boards.

Cypress will look to keep their Orange Empire Conference Championship hopes alive in a showdown with first place Irvine Valley College at home on Wednesday, January 30 at 7:00pm.
