Lady Chargers Win Fourth Straight with 73-41 Victory Over Copper Mt.

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's basketball team (11-6, 3-0 OEC) earned a 73-41 victory over the visiting Copper Mountain College Fighting Cacti (7-7, 2-1 OEC) on Wednesday night.

The Lady Chargers led Copper Mountain for all but the first minute of action, beginning the game with a quick 10-2 run before taking a 20-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. Cypress continued adding to their lead in the second quarter, where the outscored the Fighting Cacti 23-12, taking a 43-21 lead into halftime.

Relentless defensive pressure by the Chargers forced Copper Mountain into 29 turnovers, resulting in 21 points in transition for Cypress. It was also one of the best shooting performances from long-range of the season for Cypress. The Chargers shot 40% from beyond the arc, drilling 10 threes on the night.

It was a balanced offensive attack for the Chargers with only one player scoring in double-figures. Freshman Janei-Ruby Fuamatu led the way with 10 points to go along with 6 assists and 4 rebounds. Tawni Atencio, Hannah Avila-McArthur, Pressila Blanco, Nataly Cruz, and Tanya Carbajal added 8 points each.

Women's basketball will return to action on the road this Friday night against the Santa Ana College Dons. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
