Career Night by Miller Powers Chargers Past Gauchos

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's basketball team (9-6, 1-0 OEC) opened up Orange Empire Conference play with an 80-62 victory at home over Saddleback College (3-8, 0-1 OEC).

After a back and forth affair for the first three quarters, the Chargers managed to outscore the Gauchos 27-11 in the final frame to open OEC play with a win.

Sophomore center Nicole Miller had a career night off the bench, finishing with 20 points on 10-of-12 shooting, to go along with 20 rebounds and 4 blocks. Miller led the Chargers in their dominant fourth quarter run, scoring 8 points, while earning 4 rebounds and 1 block to close out the game.

Clinging to a two-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, Cypress got it done inside, outscoring Saddleback 56-34 in the paint and 23-4 in second chance points.

Hannah Avila-McArthur helped the Chargers pull away in the second half. The sophomore did not enter the game until late in the third quarter, but she notched an efficient 10 points, 7 boards, and 3 steals in 12 minutes of action to help the Chargers secure a win. Despite some shooting struggles, freshman Pressila Blanco added 15 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds on the night.

The Lady Chargers will return to action on Friday when they travel to take on the Riverside City College Tigers at 7:00pm.
