RIVERSIDE, CA - At the annual post-conference women's basketball coaches meeting, held at Riverside City College, the OEC coaches selected the First and Second All-Orange Empire Conference Teams while also selecting a Most Valuable Player and Coach of the Year.
Cypress sophomores Gabrielle Carbajal and Vivian Lara were selected to the All-OEC First Team, while Margaret Mohr was named Co-Coach of the Year.
Coach Mohr has received her third consecutive Coach of the Year Award to go along with her third consecutive OEC Championship. She helped the Chargers rebound from a rough 1-4 start to the season to finish 21-7 overall, winning their final nine games to clinch a share of the 2018 OEC Title, and #12 seed in the CCCAA Playoffs.
Carbajal and Lara are tied for the team-high in points per game, each averaging 16.3ppg this season.
Lara also leads the Chargers in assists per game (3.7) and steals per game (2.4). The Norwalk High School alumna established herself as the team's closer this season, carrying the offense down the stretch on numerous occasions. She posted three 30-plus point games and eight 20-plus point games during the regular season.
Carbajal helped pace the Lady Chargers, averaging 3.4 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game, to go along with her scoring totals. The Rancho Alamitos High School alumna shot an efficient 43% from the floor and team-leading 74% at the foul line during the regular season, while scoring in double-figures in all but three games.
