No. 19 Lady Chargers in Two-Team Race for OEC Title

CYPRESS, CA – The No. 19 Cypress College women's basketball team (18-7, 10-1 OEC) took care of business at home against district rival Fullerton College (9-14, 5-6 OEC) on Wednesday night, 74-51.

Sophomore guard Vivian Lara carried the Chargers' offense, pouring in 31 points, for her third game with 30+ points this season. Freshman center Hannah Avila-McArthur added 11 points and 11 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the year. Freshman Nicole Miller chipped in with 12 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.

Coach Mohr's young team did not look past the Hornets, who played them close in the first matchup of the season. The Chargers led from start to finish, relying on tough defense, while establishing a strong offensive presence in the paint. Cypress dominated the boards, outrebounding the Hornets 47-28 for the game, resulting in 22 second-chance points and 54 points in the painted area.

The victory sets up a showdown on the road against the No. 7 Irvine Valley Lasers on Friday night, which could ultimately determine the Orange Empire Conference Champion. The Lasers handed Cypress their only conference loss this season when they knocked off the Chargers, 74-68. Tip-off for this marquee matchup is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in IVC's Hart Gymnasium.
