Lady Chargers Take Down Copper Mountain, 90-28

JOSHUA TREE, CA – The Cypress College women's basketball team (15-7, 7-1 OEC) defeated the Copper Mountain College Fighting Cacti (0-17, 0-8 OEC) on Friday night, 90-28. The 62-point margin of victory is the largest for the Cypress College women's basketball program since December 1, 1994, when the Lady Chargers defeated Mt. San Jacinto, 101-22.

Freshman center Hannah Avila-McArthur led the way for Cypress, notching her sixth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Avila-McArthur also grabbed 6 steals and dished out 5 assists. Sophomore guard Vivian Lara added 14 points, 6 boards, 7 assists, and 5 steals.

The Chargers led by just 7 points at the end of the first quarter before outscoring the Fighting Cacti 22-5 in the second quarter to take a 39-15 lead at the half. Cypress continued to dominate the game in the second half, outscoring Copper Mountain 31-6 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Women's basketball will return to action on their home floor against Orange Coast College on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
