Women's Basketball Powers Past Copper Mountain in OEC Opener, 92-40

CYPRESS, CA – The back-to-back OEC champion Cypress College women's basketball team (9-6, 1-0 OEC) extended their conference home win streak to 19 games after Wednesday's 92-40 victory over Copper Mountain College (0-10, 0-1 OEC). It was the first ever match-up between the two schools.

Five Chargers scored in double-figures to open Orange Empire Conference play. Freshman Hannah Avila-McArthur was dominant inside, finishing with 18 points and 20 rebounds. Sophomore Gabby Carbajal poured in 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while freshman Nicole Miller added 14 points and 6 rebounds in her season debut off the bench.

Celeste Reyes and Tusitusia Brown led the Fighting Cacti. Reyes finished with a team-high 14 points along with 6 rebounds. Brown finished with a double-double, netting 10 points and grabbing 10 boards.

The Lady Chargers led from start to finish, jumping out to a 26-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Copper Mountain showed some life in the second quarter as Reyes drilled a pair of three-pointers.

Cypress continued to dominate the game in the second half, outscoring the Fighting Cacti 43-16, as the Chargers went on to win by a season-high margin of 52 points.

The Chargers will travel to take on Orange Coast College this Friday at 7:00pm.
