Sophomore women's basketball standout Vivian Lara was awarded her first Charger of the Week during Monday's practice after a stretch of outstanding performances (Nov. 27-Dec. 3).
Lara helped lead the Chargers to a third place finish in the 34th Annual Lady Charger Classic. The Chargers began the tournament with a 79-45 victory over Santa Monica before losing to undefeated Palomar 72-70 in the semi-final. Cypress was able to bounce back and defeat Citrus College in Sunday's third place game, 64-61.
Lara averaged 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals per game during the tournament's three game stretch. She scored the Chargers' final 9 points and forced a Citrus turnover on the Owls' final possession to put the game out of reach and grab third place.
The Santa Fe High School alumna was selected to the Lady Charger Classic All-Tournament team. She currently ranks second on the team in points and assists.
