Bertrand Accepts Full Ride Offer from Northeastern State University

CYPRESS, CA -  Cypress College women's basketball standout Joi Bertrand has accepted a full ride athletic scholarship from Northeastern State University, where she will continue her basketball career next season.

NSU, located in Tahlequah, OK, competes at the NCAA Division II level as a member of the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA). "When I went on my visit I really liked the team, the coach, and the family atmosphere," said Bertrand. "I want to be a top ten player in the league and help get them 2 banners while I'm there."

Bertrand began her college basketball career at Cal State Dominguez Hills before transferring to play her sophomore season at Cypress. The All-Orange Empire Conference Second Team selection helped lead the Lady Chargers to a 2017 OEC title, using her size and versatility to impact the game on both ends of the floor. Bertrand averaged 6.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and a team-high 1.6 blocks per game in 30 games at Cypress.

"For the most part, my journey has helped me mature and think more about my teammates, while also believing in myself. I've formed bonds that I never thought I'd be able to make," said Bertrand. "Coach Mohr has helped push me to grow as a player, as well as academically, personally, and emotionally. I've never had a coach that wanted more from me than I wanted for myself."

The Long Beach Wilson High School alumna will major in psychology. She plans to get her masters in child development and working with preschoolers upon graduation from NSU.
