No. 4-Seed Chargers Host No. 5-Seed Palomar in CCCAA SoCal Regional Final

CCCAA Southern California Regional Bracket

The No. 4-seed Chargers (24-6, 11-1 OEC) will host No. 5-seed Palomar College (26-2, 8-0 PCAC) in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Final on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Admission to the CCCAA event is $12 for adults and $8 for students, faculty, staff, senior citizens 60 and over, and children under 12. 

The Chargers enter their match-up with the Comets coming off a 58-41 win over Moorpark College that stretched their win streak to 9 games with their last loss coming on the road against Saddleback College (Jan. 18). The Chargers' win streak, includes an exciting double OT victory over Orange Coast College and a win over Saddleback College, which ensured them their second consecutive Orange Empire Conference Championship. The Chargers led the OEC in points scored and forced a conference leading 26 turnovers per game. Cypress finished the regular season as one of the top ranked teams in the state when it came to generating turnovers. The Lady Chargers have not played Palomar this year, but have an all-time record of 16-7 against the Comets with their most recent game being an 84-71 loss in 2015.

The Comets enter the match-up riding an 18-game win streak, with their last loss coming against East LA in the Lady Charger Classic. The Comets are coming off of an 80-77 win over Orange Coast College. Palomar led the PCAC-North in steals with 14 per game and turnovers generated with 24 per game. The Comets finished the regular season as one of the top ranked defensive and offensive teams in the state as they limited opponents to 48 pts per game while scoring an average of 88 pts per game.

Players to watch for the Chargers are First Team All-OEC Selections Sylvia Garcia, who led the Chargers with 12 PPG and 6.4 RPG, and Alyssa Movchan, who averages 10.1 points and 2.3 assists.

Winner will advance to the CCCAA Women's Basketball State Championships (Final 8) at Las Positas College in Livermore, CA on March 11-12.
