Four Lady Chargers Selected to All-Conference Team

Four Lady Chargers Selected to All-Conference Team

The women's basketball team has had a spectacular season, finishing conference play in first place with a 10-2 record and matching last season's win total with a 23-6 record overall. Four of the Lady Chargers were named to the All-Orange Empire Conference team, including sophomore captain Erika Nilsen, Alyssa Movchan, Dominique Culhno, and Bianca Silva. Nilsen and Movchan were named OEC First Team while Culho and Silva were selected to the OEC Second Team.

Nilsen was a consistent producer, averaging 8.6 PPG and 5.3 RPG.  She was a versatile scoring option who not only scored inside the post, but also made a share of jumpers from midrange and the three-point line. She had thirteen games where she scored in double figures, including a 23-point performance against Saddleback where she went 10-of-15 from the field.

Alyssa Movchan was the co-leading scorer for the Chargers, averaging 10.8 PPG. The freshman guard was a streaky scorer, having scored more than 15 points in eight games. Her best performance came against Santa Monica when she scored 21 points, going 8-of-17 from the field and 5-of-10 from the three-point line. She was also a pesky defender, averaging 1.8 steals per game.

Dominique Culhno co-led the team in scoring alongside Movchan with 10.8 PPG. Culhno was a reliable shot-creator and playmaker, leading the team with 3.0 assists per game. She also caused problems for opposing teams on the defensive end, averaging 1.9 steals per game.

Even though Bianca Silva averaged only 6.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game this season, Silva was a stronger post-presence than her stats suggested. The freshman forward proved to be a big-game player, averaging 7.8 points and 7.3 rebounds in conference play. Silva played a vital role against conference rival Riverside, putting up 14 points and 12 rebounds in their first meeting followed by 10 points and eight boards in their second match.
