Moorpark, CA- The Cypress College women's basketball team (1-0) defeated Moorpark College (0-1) in their season opener on the road Friday night 74-59.
The Chargers took command of the game early in the first quarter, outscoring the Raiders 24-7. Freshman guard Alyssa Movchan led the way for Cypress with a team high 14 points. However, Cypress was able to keep a balanced attack as four players would finish scoring double figures and all 11 Chargers would score. Freshman Dominique Culhno and Monique Mesa finished with 12 points each, while sophomore forward Erika Nilsen chipped in 10 points.
Emma Johnson led the way for Moorpark with a game high 18 points but it wouldn't be enough to overcome a well-rounded Cypress team.
The opening night victory should instill this young Chargers team with some confidence heading into the Merced Tournament on Thursday, November 12th. Schedule is TBA.
