Chargers go 2-0 in Weekend Tournament

Cypress college softball (4-0) hosted a three team tournament on Saturday where they beat Pasadena City, 8-2, and San Diego Mesa, 5-1.

Sophomore, Janea Brannen got the start on the mound for Cypress in the first game of the double header. She threw a flawless game striking out 4 and carrying a no-hitter into the 7th inning. Maddie Bogdanovich led the way on the offensive end, tallying 4 hits and scoring 3 runs. Cypress looked sharp and scored in all but one inning against the Pasadena City Lancers. Brannen's no-hitter was broken up by a hard hit ball to center field with two outs left in the game. Pitcher, Erica Guerrero relieved Brannen and shut the door on any possibility of a rally from the Lancers.

Cypress faced San Diego Mesa in the second leg of the double header. The Chargers got out to an early 4-1 lead after the second inning and never looked back. Stephanie Kugler pitched a fantastic 4.1 innings giving up only one run. The bullpen took care of the rest shutting out Mesa for the remainder of the game. Janea Brannen used the second game to show off her skills with the bat knocking in two runs. The Chargers took adavantage of a Mesa pitcher who could not find her command. Cypress reached base via a hit batter seven times and five times in the second inning. Lesley Bojorquez tallied 2 RBI's as the Chargers went on to win 5-1.
