No. 2 Chargers Soar Past Cerritos, 9-2

CERRITOS, CA- In a non-conference game on Monday, the No. 2 ranked Cypress College softball team (18-2, 9-0 OEC) picked up their 18th win of the season at Cerritos College, 9-2. 

Freshman pitcher Janea Brannen (W, 10-2) picked up her tenth win in Monday's match-up. Brannen pitched her eighth complete game of the season for the Chargers, facing 28 batters, while allowing only 3 hits and 2 earned runs. She also went 3-for-4 with a team-leading 4 RBI's at the plate.

The Chargers got on the board early, as Brannen and Kimberly MacPherson (0-for-3) each scored runs following a Cerritos throwing error in the second inning. The Chargers added to their lead in the third on a Brannen three-run homer, which scored Kelsi Victores (0-for-2) and Lesley Bojorquez (1-for-4). The Chargers extended their lead with runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and another in the seventh inning.

Standouts at the plate included Brannen and left fielder, Vanessa Ayala who went 2-for-3 with an RBI. The Chargers will continue OEC play when they travel to take on Saddleback College at 3:00pm.
