No. 2 Cypress Softball Dominates Sunday Doubleheader

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College softball team (8-1, 2-0 OEC) came out and dominated in Sunday's home doubleheader. The Chargers began the day with a 5-1 victory over Pasadena City College, before ending the weekend with an 11-0 run-rule victory against Bakersfield College.

GAME 1: Cypress vs. Pasadena (W, 5-1)

Freshman Eliza Sandoval (W, 4-0) remained unbeaten on the year, earning her fourth victory of the season in the circle against the Lancers. Sandoval gave up the lone run of the day on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

The Chargers jumped out in front early when Amanda Campos (1-for-2, RBI) scored from third on a passed ball in the first inning, before Cypress added three more runs in the second to take a 4-0 lead.

Gabriela Zapata (1-for-2, RBI) drilled an RBI single to left field, scoring Madison Bagdonovich (2-for-3). Infinity Laufou (1-for-2, 2RBI) followed that up with a two-run double, before the throw beat her to third to end the inning.

The Lancers' lone run came on a sacrifice bunt in the fourth inning, but the Chargers answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth as they went on to win, 5-1.

GAME 2: Cypress vs. Bakersfield (W, 11-0 – 5 innings)

Freshman Janea Brannen (W, 4-1) pitched a shutout to pick up her fourth victory of the season in game two against the Renegades. Brannen gave up just 2 hits, while notching 5 strikeouts in 5 innings of work.

The Chargers again took control early, this time erupting for eight runs in the first inning, before adding three more in the second. Seven different Chargers recorded a hit, while six finished with at least one RBI.

Amanda Campos (1-for-4, 3RBI) and Vanessa Ayala (2-for-2, RBI) led a humming Cypress offense.

Cypress softball is scheduled to resume Orange Empire Conference action at Riverside City College on Wednesday at 3:00pm.
