No. 4 Chargers Sweep Antelope Valley College in Saturday Doubleheader

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College softball team (3-0) picked up two mercy rule victories during Saturday's home doubleheader against Antelope Valley College (4-3). The Chargers used a 9-run second inning to defeat the Marauders in game one, 11-3 (6-innings), before erupting for 6 more runs in the third inning of game two, where they went on to win 10-2 (5-innings).

Cypress entered Saturday ranked No. 4 in the state according to the 3CFCA Preseason State Poll.

Freshman Janea Brannen (W, 1-0) got the start and the win for the Chargers in game one, allowing just 3 runs on 7 hits with 9 strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work. Freshman ace Eliza Sandoval (W, 2-0) earned the victory in game two. Sandoval gave up 2 runs on 7 hits with 4 strikeouts in 5.0 innings.

Sophomores Amanda Campos and Vanessa Ayala, along with Brannen powered the Cypress offense. Campos was 4-for-6 with 3RBI and 2 runs, while making big plays on defense at third base. Ayala finished the day going 3-for-5 with an RBI and 2 runs, while Brannen went 4-for-5 with 4RBI and 2 runs scored.

The Chargers will return to action at home tomorrow as they take on Pasadena City College at 10:30am followed by Bakersfield at 2:30pm.
