CYPRESS, CA - Cypress College softball standout Jenny Vasquez accepted a full ride scholarship from Miami University of Ohio, where she will continue her softball career this spring.

Miami of Ohio, Located in Oxford, OH, competes at the NCAA Division I level in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). "I really took into consideration the scholarship money and the playing situation, which both felt right for me," said Vasquez. "The campus was beautiful. The coaches were really nice and made me feel right at home and so did the girls."

Vasquez hit .346 with 70 RBI, 77 runs, and 7 HR's during her 2-year career at Cypress. She helped lead the Chargers to back-to-back Orange Empire Conference Championships and was an essential piece to the first undefeated State Championship softball team in CCCAA history. The second baseman improved in all three major hitting categories during her sophomore year, which was rewarded with a 2017 All-OEC Second Team and All-State Tournament Team selection.

"Cypress is a winning program. All the coaches were really a part of helping us succeed, especially individually. Like whenever I wanted to do individual workouts or stay after practice and work on fielding or hitting. That just helped me have a winning attitude at all times. That's something I'm going to take to Ohio and hopefully impact the team."

Vasquez plans to major in Public Health and gain experience at Miami of Ohio's Child Development Center, while balancing the demands of being a student-athlete. She would like to attend graduate school and eventually become a child psychologist.
