No. 3 Chargers Dominate Rustlers, 10-0

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College softball team (10-0, 4-0 OEC) easily came away with a 10-0 win in 5 innings over Golden West College (0-10, 0-4 OEC) at home on Tuesday. The Chargers entered the game ranked No. 3 in the state.

Hailey Hoffman (1-0) received the win for the Chargers in her first start of the season. Hoffman worked 5 innings while allowing just 2 hits and striking out 8 Rustlers. Destiny Vasquez (1-for-2, 2 RBI) and Melanie Okazaki (3-for-3, RBI) led the Chargers offense.

Patricia Boyette (0-2) took the loss for the Rustlers as she failed to record an out while allowing 3 runs on 2 hits and walking 2 Chargers.

The Chargers opened the scoring in the first inning after Sydney McCollum (1-for-2, RBI) singled home Alexis Zavala (1-for-1) to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. Cypress would add 2 more runs in the inning as McCollum and Jenny Vasquez (0-for-1) both scored on wild pitches to give the Chargers a 3-0 advantage. The Chargers continued to pour it on in the second inning as they struck for 6 more runs to give the Chargers a 9-0 lead, with 2 coming on a double to left field by Destiny Vasquez. Rebecca Espinoza (1-for-1, RBI) tacked on another run on an RBI single in the third inning as the Chargers went on to win 10-0.

No. 3 softball will return to action at home against Riverside College on Wednesday, March 1 at 3:00 p.m.
