The Cypress College Softball program advanced to the State Championship Tournament thanks in part to their pitching talent and efficient offense, but sophomore Jezz Portillo came through in the clutch to earn Charger of the Week (May 9- May 15).

In Sunday's game against Palomar College in the CCCAA Super Regional Final the Chargers found themselves tied 2-2 heading to the bottom of the 7th inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Jezz Portillo delivered a walk-off single to center field to send the Chargers to the State Championships. Portillo also went 2-for-3 against Fullerton on Friday and was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI against Cerritos the following day.

The sophomore catcher was named to the All-OEC Second Team this season and has been one of the more consistent producers for the Chargers. Portillo is currently batting a .372 with 31 RBI and 21 runs while boasting a .994 fielding percentage. She will be counted on to help lead the Chargers to their 9th State Championship this weekend in Bakersfield.
