No. 1 Cypress Hosts No. 16 Long Beach in SoCal Regional

CYPRESS, CA – After an undefeated run through the Orange Empire Conference, Cypress College softball (35-5, 21-0) is ready to make a run at another State Championship. The Chargers will enter the Southern California Regional as a No. 1 seed and host a best-of-three series against No. 16 Long Beach City College (23-18, 12-9) on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8. Game one is scheduled for Saturday at 2:00 pm. Game two will take place Sunday at 12:00 pm followed by a third and final game (if necessary) at 2:00 pm.

With five key players returning from last season's team that finished in the semifinals, the Chargers have the experience to make a serious run at a ninth state title. Boasting four All-State selections, including SoCal Player of the Year Taylor Pierce, the Chargers enter the SoCal Regional as one of the most talented teams in the state.

The Long Beach City Vikings defeated No. 17 Bakersfield College 8-5 in the play-in round after a fourth place finish in the South Coast Conference. Freshman outfielder Yulissa Dominguez has played a key role in the Vikings' success this season, batting .423 with 13 stolen bases to earn a spot on the All-SoCal Team.

The Chargers are 2-0 against Long Beach this season, winning both meetings quite handily. In their first meeting on February 12, Cypress won 11-2 in five innings. In their second game at the Ventura Tournament on April 2, the Chargers earned a 9-0 shutout victory in five innings.
