#4 Chargers Defeat #8 Cerritos, 1-0

Cypress, CA- The #4 Cypress Chargers (12-1, 6-0) extended their current win streak to 12 with a 1-0 victory over the #8 Cerritos Falcons (15-5, 5-1) on Saturday afternoon.

Vanessa Ledesma picked up her sixth win despite lasting only two innings while issuing three walks and striking out two. Hits were hard to come by as both teams combined for seven, four for Cerritos and three for Cypress.

The lone run came in the bottom of the first. Justice Walker led off the inning with a single to right field then stole second base. Tobi Salzman flied out to center field enabling Walker to tag up and advance to third. The errant throw got away from Cerritos third baseman Jenny Navarro and Justice Walker took home on the error. After a lengthy protest, the call wound up reversed and Walker had to retreat back to third base. Two batters later, Jezz Portillo laid down a perfect bunt and reached on a fielder's choice scoring Walker from third.

Cerritos had a golden opportunity to get runs on the board in the top of the fifth when Cypress pitcher Ashley Ramirez ran into trouble. With a runner on first and second and no outs, Taylor Pierce stepped to the mound to stop the bleeding and did just that getting the Falcons to foul out, pop out, and strike out to end the inning.

Taylor Pierce breezed the rest of the way earning a three inning save in the process.

Cypress will jump back into Orange Empire Conference action when they host Santiago Canyon on Wednesday, March 9 at 3:00pm.
