Men's Tennis Advances to SoCal Regional Semi-Final

CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress College Men's Tennis Team hosted #5 seed Glendale College yesterday in the Quarterfinals of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs.  Although shorthanded, the Chargers defeated the Vaqueros 5-1 to advance to the next round.

In doubles, the Chargers took two of three doubles points.  The number three doubles team of Thomas Kyle and Ingmar Remmerswaal were on a roll and won quickly 8-1.  Freshmen Nicholas Turner and Gertjan De Wilder followed with their win at #2 doubles fighting off a late surge from the Vaqueros.  Glendale upset the Chargers top doubles team to salvage the point but Cypress went into singles play with a 2-1 lead.

In singles, Thomas Kyle got Cypress it's much needed 3rd point with his quick victory at number three singles.  Gertjan De Wilder played a stellar match and took care of his opponent to get Cypress it's 4th point.  Freshman Ingmar Remmerswaal sealed the deal for the Chargers when he defeated his opponent in straight sets.

"This was a good team win for us.  We did not necessarily play well in certain positions but a lot of guys like Gertjan and Ingmar really stepped up today.  We look forward to our rematch with Cerritos College in the next round of playoffs."

Cypress will travel to #2 Seed Cerritos College on Tuesday, April.  That match will begin at 2:00pm.  The Chargers will now participate in the Orange Empire Conference tournament to qualify as individuals for the CCCAA Men's Tennis Individual State Championships.
