Men's Tennis Goes 1-1 in Fresno

Fresno, CA -  The Cypress College Men's Tennis team traveled north to Fresno this past weekend to take on Fresno City College and Fresno State University.  The Chargers played tough but returned home with one victory and one loss.

The Chargers opened the day against Fresno City College.  The Chargers proved too tough as they swept the Rams for the first time in 6 years.  The Chargers started off with a 3-0 lead after doubles.  Number two and number one doubles for the Chargers cruised not dropping a game both winning 8-0.  Sophomores Maximilien Blancaneaux and Vincent Reynaud closed out the doubles with an 8-2 win.

In singles it was all Cypress as the Chargers dropped only 5 games over 6 matches.  Sophomore Thomas Kyle lead the Chargers winning his match at number one singles 6-0, 6-0.   Teammates Gertjan De Wilder, Samuel Whitehill and Thomas Davies all followed suit also winning 6-0, 6-0.  Freshman Nick Turner played the toughest match of the day winning 6-2, 6-1 while Freshman Ingmar Remmerswaal wrapped up the morning for Cypress with his 6-1, 6-1 victory.

The Chargers then traveled to Fresno State University to take on the Bulldogs.  In doubles, took control at number three doubles and got the Chargers a win with their 6-0 win.  Unfortunately, in NCAA Division 1 rules doubles only counts for one point as the Bulldogs took both Doubles number one and two to take the doubles point.

In singles, the Chargers put up a fight but the NCAA Division 1 Bulldogs proved too tough.  Notable performances for the Chargers were Maximilien Blancaneaux, Vincent Reynaud and Nicholas TurnerVincent Reynaud took his opponent to the distance winning the first set and then having a few match points before falling 12-10 in the tie-break.  Maximilien Blancaneaux played well but fell against his opponent in straight sets.  Nicholas Turner played a gutsy match to force a third set but fell in the third set tie-breaker.

"Overall I think we had a good weekend.  The Team is really playing well and we know exactly what we need to do to prepare for our last regular season match and then get ready for the Southern California Play-offs.  My top three guys have been leading this team all year and I am so proud of them.  Maximilien Blancaneaux, Vincent Reynaud and Thomas Kyle will go down in history as some of the best players that have ever come through Cypress College.  I'm excited to see how this team will step up come play-off time."
