TORRANCE, CA – The Chargers diving team competed in the Southern California Regional Diving Championships this past weekend at El Camino College and came away with some great individual performances.

Freshman Alejandra Gomez swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards as she was named both the Southern California Champion and the Orange Empire Conference Champion. Gomez broke the El Camino Community College pool record for the 3-meter diving board with 277.7 points and she broke the Cypress College record for 3-meter diving that she had set earlier in the season. Gomez now holds both the 3-meter and 1-meter diving records and she is now setting her sights on becoming the CCCAA champion.

Freshman Ryan Napohaku placed 5th out of 26 on the 3-meter board and 7th out of 27 on the 1-meter board, which qualified him for the state team in both 1-meter and 3-meter diving. Darian Gamble placed 9th out of 27 on the 1-meter board and was named 1st alternate for the state team.

Diving will return to action at the CCCAA State Championships on Thursday, May 4 and Friday, May 5 at East LA Community College.
