Mark Wyse Swims Fastest 100-yard Freestyle in Charger History

FULLERTON, CA – The Cypress College men's swim team finished 5th overall at the OEC Championships this past weekend at Fullerton College.

It has been 40 years since Doug Forbes swam the fastest 100-yard freestyle in Cypress College history unitil Mark Wyse geared up for his freestyle events. Not only did Wyse accomplish his goal, he destroyed the record, swimming four laps in 46.19 seconds to best Doug Forbes by one second. The record breaking race earned Wyse a ticket to the CCCAA State Championship meet ranked 11th within all California Community Colleges.

Teammate Nathan Panter helped lead the men's team to a victory over crosstown rivals Fullerton College, Santa Ana, and Saddleback in the combined team scores. Panter medaled in all three of his events, narrowly missing out on the 100-yard backstroke team record by a mere 0.29 seconds. Freshman Matt Efseaff also medaled in the 400-yard individual medley (4:52) edging out Kai Duty (SADD) and Irving Pena (FJC).

Mark Wyse and Arthur Lawrence will represent Cypress College Swim and Dive at the California Community College Athletic Association State Championships on May 5-7 at East Los Angeles College.
