Cypress Swim Team Shows Promise in Season Opener

San Marcos, CA – The Cypress College swim team opened the season with standout swims from Kiley KendallEsther KimAriel Burns, Mark Wyse, and Nathan Panter at the Palomar Pentathalon.

The Lady Charger Swim Team had three top ten finishes, led by Kiley Kendall, who finished 1st in the 50-yard breaststroke (33.73). Esther Kim nearly broke a 24-year team record in the 50-yard butterfly and finished 3rd with a time of 28.87 seconds. Freshman sprinter Ariel Burns medaled with an overall 4th place finish and finished 4th in the 50-yard backstroke (30.59). 

The Cypress men's team had two top fifteen finishes. Freestyler Mark Wyse finished 9th overall in the 50 freestyle (22.08) and Backstroker Nathan Panter finished 13th in the 50 backstroke (28.34).  The Chargers overcame a challenging field of 75 competitors from Riverside, Cerritos, San Diego Mesa, Grossmont, Chaffey and Palomar. 

It is shaping up to be an exciting season for the Charger swim team.  The next meet will put Cypress to the test as they face conference teams Fullerton, Santa Ana, Orange Coast, Goldenwest, Saddleback, and Riverside.  Meet will be on Friday, February 19th at Goldenwest College at 1pm.
