Chargers Men's Soccer Earns First Victory of the Season with 1-0 Win Over Citrus College
Freshman Frank Troya's Second-Half Goal Secures the Win After Cypress Dominates Offensive Play, Outshooting Owls 16-4
CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress College Chargers (1-0-1) secured their first victory of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 win against the Citrus College Owls (0-2) in their second match of the year.
The Chargers came out aggressive from the start, putting pressure on the Owls' defense. Early in the match, Cypress nearly took the lead with a powerful shot that struck the crossbar. Moments later, another close call hit the right post, leaving the Chargers eager for their breakthrough.
Despite the near misses, the Chargers kept up the relentless attack, outshooting the Owls 11-1 in the first half.
Cypress finally got on the scoreboard in the second half when freshman Frank Troya delivered a stunning strike from just outside the penalty box. Troya's shot sailed into the top corner, pinging off the post and into the net. The assist came from freshman Jhonkarlo Vega, who expertly set up Troya for the game-winner.
The team's dominant offensive performance and strong defensive effort helped secure the shutout, setting the tone for the season ahead.
