Chargers Outhustle Hawks, 3-1

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress men's soccer team (7-4-3, 4-2 OEC) outhustled the Santiago Canyon Hawks (4-8-1, 0-6 OEC) 3-1 at home on Tuesday afternoon. The Chargers moved up to second place in the OEC standings. 

It was Julio Perez who scored the opening goal for the Chargers within the first five minutes from kickoff. Perez took advantage of the opportunity about 20 yards out and found the net on the right side of the goal. 

The Santiago Canyon Hawks did not allow the shutout when Carlos Navarro tied the game at the 40th minute.

In the second half, the Chargers continued as the agressors with 14 shots on goal. There were plenty of opportunities to score, though the ball kept finding the post. Then, Perez had another chance to score inside the box. The ball bounced off the keeper and Logan Garcia ran in on the left side to score off the deflection into the net for his first goal of the season. 

The Chargers maintened their offensive pressure throughout the rest of the half. 

Rafay Shafique set up Perez with a pass towards the right side of the goal; Perez faked left and shifted the ball right to find the back of the net for the final goal of the match, 3-1.

UP NEXT: The Chargers will face the Fullerton Hornets on Friday, October 21st at home. Kickoff is at 3PM.
