Chargers Shutout Owls in Home Opener, 4-0

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress men's soccer team (4-0) defeated the Citrus Owls (0-4) on Tuesday afternoon in their home opener. The Chargers are out to a 4-0 start under the new direction of Coach Christian Rus.

Majority of the first half the Chargers dominated the ball, attempting 13 shots on goal to the Owls 4 shots. Thomas Garcia, the Owls' goalkeeper, had seven saves in the first half to hold the Chargers off. That was until Cypress' freshman, Nomar Ibarra, was fouled in the penalty box at the 39th minute. Ibarra took advantage of the penalty kick to put the Chargers up 1-0 heading into halftime.

Cypress returned to the field more aggressive with multiple shots on goal just missing the net. In the 62nd minute Lorenzo La Violette added to Cypress' lead with an assist by his teammate, Sahand Amirjalali. The Chargers' defense showed a tremendous effort only allowing one shot on goal in the second half. The Chargers still pressed the Owls' offense to put a few more on the board with a goal by Ricardo Zepeda assisted by Benjamin Gonzalez and another penalty kick minutes before the final whistle blew to give La Violette his fourth goal on the season.

The Cypress Chargers will return to their home field this Friday to face off against East Los Angeles at 3:00 PM.
