Chargers Fall to Pirates,1-0

Cypress, CA – The Cypress College men's soccer team (1-10-0, 0-5-0 OEC) fell to Orange Coast College (4-5-2, 2-3-1 OEC) at home on Friday afternoon, 1-0.

Despite having most of the control in the first half, the Chargers conceited a goal in the 36th minute to Jun Kwon of the Pirates. Shots in the first half came from Alex Ochoa, Anthony Garduno, Lorenzo LaViolette, and Luis Mora. Cypress outshot the Pirates 8-3 in the first half. Garduno's and Mora's shots warranted saves from Orange Coast keeper Thiago Lino Da Costa.

A keeper change by Cypress, Freshman Alberto Arceo, came at the start of the second half, which would be key to the Chargers staying in the game. The Pirates had eight shots in the second half, four of which were on frame. Arceo came up big for the Chargers with four incredible saves to keep the Pirates at bay with only one goal. The tables took a turn though, and the Pirates controlled most of the second half play. The Pirate defense only allowed the Chargers to get off 4 shots, which was not enough to push through and get them their first Orange Empire Conference win.

The Chargers will reset over the weekend and travel to take on the Dons of Santa Ana College on Tuesday, October 2 at 3:00 pm.
