Chargers Come Up Short Against Hawks, 2-1

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College men's soccer team (1-6-0, 0-2-0 OEC) fell short in Tuesday's Orange Empire Conference matchup at home against the Santiago Canyon Hawks (4-1-3, 1-1-1 OEC), 2-1.

Coming just twenty six seconds after the whistle blew to start the first half, a goal from Marcus Gonzales of Santiago Canyon gave the Hawks an early lead 1-0 lead over the Chargers. The half continued with back and forth play from both sides. First half shots from Francisco Santana-Pelayo, Dylan Martin, Alex Ochoa, and Lorenzo LaViolette kept the Chargers in the game and the Hawks on their toes.

The Chargers continued to press forward looking for an equalizer to start the second half. However, it was the Hawks' Lorenzo Noguiera who furthered the lead over the Chargers with a strike from inside the box in the 66th minute. Two minutes later the Chargers rallied back with a successful penalty kick taken by Santana-Pelayo.

Cypress had their chances to tie the game late, but would ultimately come up short to the Hawks, 2-1.

The Chargers look to improve their OEC record when they travel to take on the Hornets of Fullerton College on Friday, September 21 at 3:00 pm.
