CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College men's soccer team (1-4) dropped their Orange Empire Conference opener at home on Tuesday against Norco College, 1-3. Before kick-off, both teams took the field and observed a moment of silence to honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks 17 years ago.
The Chargers dominated the game early, creating nine chances in the first half, but Mustangs keeper Roberto Yanez notched six saves to maintain a clean sheet in the first half.
Despite the Chargers controlling the game's pace and time of possession, Norco struck first with a goal on a rebound from Deshawn Mendel in the 22nd minute.
The Mustangs added a second goal late in the game to take 2-0 lead, before the Chargers' Isiah Olivares snuck one past Norco's reserve keeper Miguel Rios to cut into the lead. However, Norco's Laketric Mendel put the game out of reach with a goal in extra time.
Men's Soccer will return to action on Wednesday, as they travel to take on Long Beach City College at 4:00 pm.
