CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College men's soccer team (5-3-1, 2-1 OEC) moved to the top of the Orange Empire Conference standings with a 2-1 victory over visiting Santiago Canyon College (0-6-4, 0-3-1 OEC) on Friday.

The game started off slow as neither team could get things going offensively. The Hawks had a great look at goal in the opening minute of action that missed wide left, but ultimately both teams ended the first half scoreless.

The Chargers dominated the ball for much of the second half. Emmanuel Pizzaro capitalized on a great pass from Israel Ramirez in the box to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead (53:57). A Santiago Canyon corner kick resulted in a game tying goal late in the game (77:29), but the Chargers quickly responded with a beautiful header from Arturo Olivo (78:39) to regain the lead.

The Hawks had their chances down the stretch but came up short as the Chargers sealed the victory.

The men's soccer team will resume action next Tuesday at home against non-conference opponent San Diego Mesa. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
