Chargers Open Conference Play with Victory Over Golden West, 3-1

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress College men's soccer team (4-2) picked up a 3-1 win at home over Golden West College (3-2-1) in their Orange Empire Conference opener on Tuesday. It was the Chargers' first victory over Golden West since 2009.

Golden West won the possession battle throughout the game. However, the Rustlers were unable to capitalize on quality looks at goal. Golden West outshot Cypress 15-9, but the Chargers were able to match the Rustlers with 4 shots on goal.

Freshman Dylan Martin opened up the scoring for Cypress, capitalizing on a beautiful pass through the box from Emmanuel Pizzaro (16:49). The Rustlers answered with an equalizer just before the half from Alex Maldonado-Pinon.

The Chargers played flawlessly in the second half. Sophomore Alex Supancic found gave the Chargers a 2-1 lead early in the second half on an assist from Arturo Reynoso (56:08). The Cypress defense held strong, continuing to pressure the Rustlers and creating advantages on offense. Freshman Daniel Castro put the game out of reach with a late goal (87:57) to give Cypress a 3-1 lead.

Men's soccer will return to action against Norco on the road this Friday at 3:00 pm.
