CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress College men's soccer team (1-1) picked up their first win of the season with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Palomar College (0-2) on Ray Haas Field in Tuesday's home opener.

The Chargers dominated possession throughout, allowing only one shot on goal from Palomar, which came late in the first half (41:16). However, Cypress was unable to capitalize on some early chances and went into the half tied 0-0.

The Comets came out aggressive to start the second half and the Chargers took advantage on the counter attack. Freshman Ulises Gomez found the back of the net with a high shot over Palomar keeper Cole Carter, giving Cypress the 1-0 edge (51:52).

Sophomore forward Jose Morales had a chance to extend the lead for Cypress in the 84th minute, but his shot would hit the crossbar, leaving the door open for the Comets down the stretch. However, the Chargers' defense held strong as they secured the 1-0 victory.

Men's soccer will return to action on Friday, September 1st at Glendale before returning home to face off against Sequoias on Tuesday, September 5th at 3:00 pm.
