Men's Soccer Falls to Irvine Valley College, 4-2

CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress College men's soccer team (4-11-2, 1-7-2) lost to Irvine Valley College (13-4-0, 8-2-0) 4-2 at home on Tuesday.

Both teams came out pressing to start the game. Despite several opportunities neither team could find the back of the net until the end of the first half. In the 40th minute Irvine Valley forward Sean Goode scored the opening goal off of a counter attack, following a Chargers corner kick, to put the Chargers down 1-0 at halftime.

The Chargers began the second half with the same pressing strategy that had created several first half opportunities. Chargers defender Hugo Toledo scored the equalizing goal in the 53rd minute after he got on the end of a ball bouncing in the box. Following the goal, Goode responded quickly with a goal to give Irvine Valley a 2-1 lead.

Both teams continued to press the ball and create chances. Chargers' forward Jorge Perez had a great chance to tie the game in the 71st minute, but his shot went just over the bar. A minute later Chargers' forward Christian Supancic was taken down in the box by Irvine Valley defender Taylor Davidson and earned himself a penalty. Chargers defender Hawe Yonas converted the penalty to tie the game 2-2. Goode and defender Peyton Stade scored two quick goals in the 80th minute to give Irvine Valley a 4-2 lead. Chargers midfielder Brett Hall had a late chance to get the Chargers back into the game, but his shot went just wide of the post. Chargers midfielder Jose Morales also had a late opportunity, but his shot was tipped wide by the keeper as the game ended 4-2.

Men's soccer will return to action on the road against Norco College on Friday, October 28th at 3:00pm.
