Aaren Lewis scored two goals and one assist to help the men's soccer team (6-0-2, 1-0 OEC) defeat Irvine Valley (1-4-3, 0-1 OEC) in its Orange Empire Conference opener. With the win, the Chargers remain unbeaten this season and tied atop the conference standings.

Cypress struck early, scoring in the eighth minute after a goal by Shawn Hansen (assist by Lewis). The Chargers then extended their lead to 2-0 with Lewis' first goal of the match in the 41st minute and went into the halftime break leading.

Irvine Valley then tied the game at two all after scoring twice in five minutes  (65', 70'), but Cypress did not want to have the game end in a tie. A great goal by Lewis (assist by Sergio Avila) with just six minutes to play proved to be the game winner as the Chargers defeated Irvine for the first time since the 2012 season.

The team will hit the road for its next match, heading to Santa Ana to take on the Dons (4-1-3, 0-1 OEC) on Friday at 3:00 pm.
