Men’s Soccer Ends Non-Conference Schedule in Historic Fashion with 6-5 Win Over College of Desert

For the first time in Cypress College men's soccer history, the program has ended the non-conference portion of their schedule unbeaten after defeating College of the Desert, 6-5, on the road with temperatures hovering over 100 degrees.

College of the Desert struck first, but the Chargers soon scored the equalizer after freshman Robin Larsson tied the game with an assist by Allen Oliveras. Desert was able to retake the lead and headed into the halftime break up 2-1.

Just after the second half commenced, Desert again scored a goal to push its lead to 3-1. The Chargers would pull within one after a goal by Aaren Lewis (assisted by Ryan Jara), but Desert would extend its lead to two (4-2) after a penalty kick was awarded and converted. Cypress  scored next after an unassisted goal by Lewis to close within 4-3, but then gave up a fifth goal to Desert as the home team led 5-3 with just twenty minutes left in regulation.

Never giving up, the Chargers roared back with three unanswered goals as Lewis and Jara took over (two goals by Jara and one from Lewis) to clinch a 6-5 victory and an unbeaten non-conference schedule for the first time in program history.

Cypress will take a break from matches until Sept. 30 when it opens up the conference schedule with a home game versus Irvine Valley College at 1:00 pm.
