Rafter Signs with Cal State Fullerton; Bris Headed to Keiser University

CYPRESS, CA – After leading the Cypress College men's golf team to its first CCCAA State Title in program history, sophomores Matthew Rafter and Georgios Bris are joining a long list of Chargers who will move on to four-year universities next season. Rafter will continue his golf career at NCAA Division I California State University Fullerton, while Bris heads to NAIA Keiser University in West Palm Beach Florida.

Rafter was named Co-Player of the Year in the Orange Empire Conference, before earning All-State honors after last week's performance in the state championship round. "I'm just looking to play golf somewhere and get a good education," said Rafter. "Cal State Fullerton is known for its good business school and it's convenient that I get to stay local."

The Whittier High School alumnus showed steady improvement from his freshman to sophomore seasons, finishing as a medalist on four occasions his sophomore year. "At Fullerton, I want to be more consistent and continue to lower my scores. I want to play in the tournaments and be one of the top guys," added Rafter.

Bris has been instrumental to the success of the Cypress College men's golf program over the past two seasons. He earned All-State honors in 2018, after sitting atop the leader board through the first 18 holes of the CCCAA State Championships. "Keiser is a great place for me to play competitively and improve my golf game," said Bris. "The golf program, academics, location and the weather all influenced my decision. I care a lot about going to a strong program with the facilities and the weather that allow me to continue improving."

Bris, who was looked upon as not only the team's vocal leader, but as a leader in the Cypress College Student Athlete Advisory Committee as well. "Coming to Cypress, playing a lot of competitive golf, representing a team and a college definitely helped me become a better player and more mature athlete. I now know that I can continue growing at Keiser," added Bris.

Both Rafter and Bris will major in business at their respective four-year institutions, with the plan of pursuing professional golf careers or becoming entrepreneurs upon graduation.
