Chargers Take Home First Place at Sandpiper Invitational

GOLETA, CA - The Cypress College men's golf team won its sixth tournament of the year on Monday after an impressive showing at Sandpiper Golf Club. The Sandpiper Invitational is a state championship preview where top teams from the north and south get an opportunity to play the State Championship Course.

The Chargers shot 371 as a team, finishing five strokes ahead of runner-up Riverside City College. Sophomores Andrew Thomson and Georgios Bris led the way for Cypress, each shooting 1-over par (73). Matthew Rafter (74), Ying-Shih Chang (75), and Dalton Davenport (76) fell in line to help the Chargers finish with the best team score.

"I told the team that if they play the way they're capable of that we can be state champions this year. This competition proved that point," said Head Coach Dana Bedard.
