Rafter Leads Chargers to OEC Tee-Off Classic Championship

YORBA LINDA, CA – The Cypress College men's golf team finished first in the Orange Empire Conference Tee-Off Classic at Los Serranos Country Club on Monday.

Sophomore Matthew Rafter shot a 3-under par 69 to win the individual medal. Sophomores Andrew Thomson and Georgios Bris each shot 1-under par (71) to help the Chargers win their first tournament of the season with a 361 total score. Cypress finished seven strokes ahead of OEC rival Orange Coast College (368) and 14 strokes ahead of third place Palomar (375).

"The team played real consistent golf yesterday," said Head Coach Dana Bedard. "That's what it's going to take to beat the top teams in the state. We had a couple guys battling the flu and they still got it done, which is a good sign for us heading into our first conference match on Wednesday."

Men's golf will open Orange Empire Conference play on Wednesday, February 7 at Los Serranos Country Club.
