ARROYO GRANDE, CA -  Cypress College men's golf completed their best season in program history with a state runner-up finish in Monday's CCCAA State Championship Tournament at Cypress Ridge Golf Course (Par 72).

Sophomore Dylan Hall posted rounds of 73 and 74 for a 3-over-par total of 147 to bring home the individual State Title for the Chargers. Cypress finished with a one-day, 36-hole team total of 785. Hall earned all-state honors for being named medalist with his score of 147.

"I am very proud of these men for the season they played. The fact that we were a very close group really helped in our success this year," said Head Coach Dana Bedard. "Being a sophomore, Dylan's experience playing in major golf tournaments with a year under his belt proved to be the key to his performance."

Only two sub-par rounds were posted on the day when temperatures hovered around 51 degrees and a steady ocean breeze made it feel even colder. "We handled the rough conditions how all the other teams handled them. Unfortunately, Canyons Handled them a little bit better," said Bedard.

College of the Canyons was able to see all five scoring players post scores in the 70's as they separated themselves from runner-up Cypress College by 24 strokes after holding a slim, six-stroke lead following the morning round. The Chargers were seeking their first state title in program history, but had to count four scores in the 80's in the afternoon round.

Hall was the only sophomore on this year's team, with so many freshman getting to experience the intensity of a state championship round, Cypress College golf is optimistic about heading into next season. "We did a really good job of recruiting last year and we have three returning starters next year. I feel that those three are going to be a strong nucleus for our incoming recruits. We have three solid incoming freshman slated to make another run at it next year," said Bedard.
